Our Story
The Genesis of Ambulanté Academy
Founded by a passionate individual who believed in the power of holistic education, Ambulanté Academy was born out of the desire to offer more than just traditional learning. We recognized the need for a place where children could grow in all aspects of life – intellectually, emotionally, spiritually, and physically.
A Name That Resonates
Ambulanté, meaning ‘able or strong enough to walk’ in French and Latin, symbolizes our belief in progress and moving forward. Just like a child’s first steps, we see education as a journey of growth and discovery. Our name reflects our commitment to guiding each learner on their unique path, helping them to ‘walk’ confidently into their future.

Our curriculum, designed around the South African CAPS guidelines, is enriched with Christian values and tailored to nourish these individual strengths and needs.

Dear Ambulanté Academy Family,
Welcome to a place where education transcends the boundaries of traditional learning. As the founder and owner of Ambulanté Academy, I am deeply honoured to share this journey with you. From the very beginning, my vision was clear – to create an educational environment that nurtures not only the intellectual capacities of our learners but their hearts and spirits as well.
Our commitment to holistic development is the cornerstone upon which Ambulanté Academy was built. We strive every day to provide an education that is rich in values, diverse in experiences, and comprehensive in its approach to developing well-rounded individuals who are prepared for the challenges of the future.
I believe that every child holds within them the potential for greatness. It is our mission to unlock this potential, guiding each learner as they discover their passions, develop their talents, and grow into confident, compassionate individuals.

Inspiring Story of Determination and Success
At the heart of our mission lies a deep-seated passion for what we do, creating an environment filled with care and excellence. For us, it is essential to cultivate compassion, love, discipline, academia, and recognition. We strive to witness the holistic development of our learners during their time with us – nurturing their spirit, soul, and body to reach their utmost potential.
The inspiration behind our endeavour stems from my youngest son, who faced considerable challenges in his early years. His story is a testament to perseverance and faith. At five years old, an educational psychologist claimed he would never integrate into mainstream education due to developmental issues. This diagnosis was echoed by his preschool teacher, two other educational psychologists, and a pediatric neurologist, suggesting that he belonged in a special school, which does not follow a mainstream syllabus. That would mean that he would never be able to obtain his matric. They were hesitant even to consider mainstream schooling for him in Grade R or Grade 1. Distraught, I found myself in tears frequently.
However, one day, as I arrived home, a vivid image of Peter walking on water came to me. It reminded me of the faith Peter had to step onto the water and how, even when his faith wavered, and he began to sink, the Lord reached out to save him from drowning. That moment crystallized my resolve and realized that I have to keep my eyes on God and have faith. I decided to move him immediately from his preschool where he did Grade R and where they already gave up hope with him, to a mainstream school that offered Grade R, where he could also attend Grade 1 the following year. He was still very young and I firmly believed he deserved a fighting chance.
Many criticized me for taking him to a mainstream school instead of a special needs school, claiming it would only traumatize him and that he would not be able to cope. In defiance of their doubts, I left my job to purchase an educational franchise focused on addressing reading and learning difficulties and cognitive development. Through reading and cognitive classes, occupational and speech therapy, lots of faith and prayer, he quickly improved and thrived in mainstream schooling. I am proud to say that he graduated from high school and is now pursuing further studies.
I decided to start Ambulanté Academy, inspired by my son’s journey. The goal to teach learners in a small, loving and supporting environment while also building their faith. The foundation of my son’s path to success was deeply rooted in our faith and prayers, compelling us to dedicate Ambulanté to the Lord, making Him our base. We begin each day with scripture reading and prayer, and we conclude the day with prayer. Bible study was integrated into the school roster and praise and worship are integral parts of our routine. Our staff members also engage in daily scripture reading and prayer. This approach sets us apart from most other schools and tutor centres, affirming our commitment as a small Christian Private School. We decided to do the right thing and legally register as a Private School (Independent School) at the Department of Education. I firmly believed that we could not be blessed or protected if we were not a legally registered school.
Ambulanté represents a beacon of hope for children who struggle to fit into big mainstream schools, offering them a smaller, more focused mainstream setting. Here, they have the time to gain momentum, with increased individual attention, teachers’ support, and intervention programs, until their child seamlessly integrates and catches up, all within a nurturing, loving, safe environment imbued with strong discipline and Christian values. External therapists visit our school to work with learners on an as-needed basis, with arrangements and payments handled directly by parents, ensuring specialized support when necessary.
Some parents are looking for alternatives for big mainstream schools. Our goal is to ensure that those searching for tutor centres, home school centres or private schools, find their way to us. We provide a safe, comfortable environment for the children, and maintain excellence while complying with all the responsibilities and requirements that come with the noble task of educating children through qualified and registered teachers.
It is not always an easy task, but I am grateful to God that we are able to offer this service to parents and I give Him all the Glory and thank Him for all our blessings and protection.
